I recently visited the Sydney Fish Market and had a memorable experience. The outside dining area had a lively vibe, with seagulls, emus, and pelicans adding to the coastal atmosphere. 🐦🦆🦩 However, the construction of the new market was a bit distracting and took away from the otherwise pleasant scene. 🚧 Now let's talk about the food—it was simply tremendous! 🦀🦞 I indulged in a huge king crab, mussels, and various shellfish that were incredibly fresh and flavorful. The sashimi of salmon and scallops were a highlight and absolutely delicious. 🍣 The addition of burnt ends meats complemented the meal perfectly. 🥩 Don't forget to bring your own wines, as whites pair exceptionally well with seafood. 🍷 One thing to be aware of during your visit is the birds—they love to join in on the dining experience uninvited! 🕊️ Be prepared to shoo them away. Overall, Sydney Fish Market offers a fantastic selection of seafood dishes in a vibrant atmosphere. Just be mindful of the feathered friends looking to share your meal!

the Sydney Fish Market was a fascinating and vibrant experience, though perhaps not for the faint of heart! It's a bustling, sensory overload of sights, sounds, and smells – the salty tang of the sea mingling with the aroma of fresh seafood and the chatter of vendors and customers. For a seafood lover like myself, it was heaven. The sheer variety of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks on display was astonishing. From glistening prawns and plump oysters to enormous crabs and exotic fish I'd never seen before, it was a feast for the eyes. I enjoyed wandering through the market, watching the fishmongers expertly fillet and prepare the seafood, and soaking up the energetic atmosphere. We bought some freshly cooked prawns and calamari to enjoy by the harbor, and they were absolutely delicious. Beyond the fresh seafood, there are also a number of shops and restaurants selling cooked seafood, sushi, and other takeaway options. It’s a great place to grab a casual lunch or dinner with a view of the working harbor. A few things to be aware of: it can get very crowded, especially on weekends, so be prepared for some jostling. Also, the market is a working environment, so it can be a bit messy and the smell can be quite strong. Wear closed-toe shoes and be mindful of where you step. Overall, the Sydney Fish Market is a unique and authentic experience that offers a glimpse into the heart of Sydney's seafood industry. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in fresh seafood, vibrant markets, and a taste of local culture.

Visiting Fish Market Sydney was an absolute delight! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of fresh seafood. The market is bustling with energy and offers an incredible variety of seafood options, from oysters and prawns to sashimi and lobsters. The stalls are well-organized, and the vendors are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to offer suggestions and answer any questions. We decided to try a bit of everything and were not disappointed. The quality and freshness of the seafood were top-notch, and the flavors were simply divine. The highlight of our visit was the seafood platter we enjoyed at one of the market’s eateries. It was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. The outdoor seating area was a great spot to relax and enjoy our meal with a view of the harbor. Parking was convenient, and the market is easily accessible. Overall, Fish Market Sydney is a must-visit for anyone in the city. Whether you’re a seafood enthusiast or just looking for a unique culinary experience, this place has something for everyone. Can’t wait to return!

Sydney Fish Market is a seafood lover's paradise and a must-visit destination for anyone craving the freshest catch of the day. Nestled along the picturesque waterfront, it's not just a marketplace but an experience in itself. One of the highlights of the Sydney Fish Market experience is the opportunity to indulge in delectable seafood delights while basking in the sunshine by the water's edge. With numerous outdoor seating areas, you can savor your meal amidst the bustling atmosphere and enjoy the salty breeze that sweeps in from the harbor. During our visit, we couldn't resist trying some of the market's specialties, and we were blown away by the sushi donut and lobster roll. Bursting with flavor and impeccably prepared, they quickly became our favorites. The sushi donut, a creative twist on traditional sushi, was a delightful fusion of textures and tastes, while the lobster roll was a decadent treat that left us craving more. But the beauty of Sydney Fish Market lies not just in its delicious offerings but also in the vibrant energy that permeates the air, every moment spent here is a feast for the senses. Whether you're a seafood aficionado or simply looking for a memorable culinary experience, Sydney Fish Market delivers on all fronts. So grab a seat, order your favorite dishes, and prepare to embark on a gastronomic journey like no other.

Apparently as the largest seafood market in the southern hemisphere, this is the spot to be in Sydney for seafood fundi's. We stopped by with the intent to have lunch on a Thursday. Sufficient parking...though a tad expensive. Much busier than expected but a great buzz/vibe as you peruse the market and various restaurants. Lots of options from the fast food type of experience, to choosing your own raw seafood and having it prepared at a cost, or sitting down at one of the restaurants and everything inbetween. The salmon sashimi was a delight...fresh, light and very more-ish. The kids had battered fish and chips. Others in our group enjoyed the barramundi with a delightfully spicy sweet potato mash, and the lobster roll was a treat. Great lunch at an iconic place. Another visit would be in order to try other seafood on offer....apparently the king crab sticks are a must have. Gulls did not bother us as others have cautioned, and we spotted a friendly pelican taking a stroll in the carpark. If seafood is your thing, this is an experience not to be missed.

Large variety of seafood! All needs were met while being at the Fish Market! It is very over priced, however considering their hard work and dedication to get the seafood and the satisfaction we get from the fresh seafood is worth it! We got the jumbo oysters and they were creamy and divine! We also got the cocktailed oysters with caviar and that was the show stopper! There is a selection of cooked seafood such as the cheesy lobster, scallops, etc You could also choose fresh fruits, we ended up getting the choc dipped strawberries and they were so delicious! They also did choc dipped banana and watermelon! There’s a cafe on site also if you need that coffee fix! Lovely seating area outside, although reading other reviews of lots of seagulls, there really wasn’t! We did go around 9am Sunday for breakfast and it was not busy and a couple of seagulls only! Best time to go in my opinion! Highly recommended when in Sydney!

A must visit place in Sydney if you love fresh seafood! This market offers you affordable fresh seafood at cheaper price compared to normal restaurants. Fresh oysters is a must try and don’t leave without trying their scallops and fresh shrimps. An open space with seating area is provided outside the market where you can enjoy your food. Just be careful with the seagulls, they snatch food! Always go early to get the best seafood.

A Genuine Experience: 7.5/10 Our day started at a comfortable 9:30 AM, taking a short taxi ride from our stay on Haymarket Street to the Sydney Fish Market. The trip was quick and we noticed there was plenty of parking available, which was reassuring for those planning to visit by car. As we stepped in, we were greeted by a fresh oceanic aroma, a clear indicator of the freshness of the seafood available here. The place had a vibrant yet easy-going atmosphere, with a wide variety of seafood options that seemed to be freshly caught, ready to be explored by both locals and tourists alike. We ventured to try a variety of dishes, including pre-cooked options and those prepared to order. While the seafood was undeniably fresh, we found that the taste didn't quite reach our expectations. The presentation was simple, perhaps too much so, leaving us wishing for a bit more flair and flavor in the preparation. A highlight of our visit was definitely the Sydney rock oysters. They were a treat to the palate, offering a fresh and authentic taste of the ocean. It's a must-try for anyone visiting, a true standout in a place that felt welcoming to tourists and seafood enthusiasts alike. Yes, it is a popular spot for tourists, but it maintains a genuine and lively vibe, making it a great spot for everyone. It's not just a market, but a place where you can experience the true essence of Sydney's seafood culture. In conclusion, the Sydney Fish Market offers a straightforward yet rich seafood experience. Whether you're a local or a tourist, it's a place where you can enjoy good food without much fuss. And don't forget to try the Sydney rock oysters; they are indeed a highlight not to be missed!

When I eat seafood I am expecting the seafood to taste like seafood, with flavours enhancing it rather than overwhelming it. The oysters were alright but the mixed grill was overcooked and nothing tasted like seafood, just whatever the Marinate or cooking style was. For a lobster dish i expected the star to shine with a juicy and springy taste, but we just got an overcooked lobster based with whatever chilli sauce was used. I'd give it a lower rating but the oysters tasted pretty good. This was from the Fish Market Cafe, so go there for oysters but avoid the mixed grill.
WillyJN on 5/10/2023
Seafood here was as fresh as they come. Had a whole live lobster from the shop just at the left at the entrance from the lady screaming: "Lobster, lobster, lobster!!!" Cooked beautifully by the chef from HongKong.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 That was followed by oysters + oysters with uni + sparkling wine for seafood overload for the day. Definitely recommend as prices here are lower than in restaurants in the city.

Sydney Fish Market is a bustling hub of activity that captivates seafood enthusiasts with its vibrant atmosphere and abundant offerings. From the moment you step foot inside, you're greeted by a sensory overload of sights and smells—rows upon rows of fresh seafood, displayed in all its glory. The market's popularity is evident in its constant buzz of activity, with locals and tourists alike flocking to sample the ocean's bounty. With a diverse selection ranging from succulent prawns to plump oysters and everything in between, there's something to satisfy every palate. Best fresh seafood you'll get in Sydney! We had a bit of everything, Lobster rolls, king crab legs, scallops with rice combo, a decent seafood platter for 2 and the freshest rock oysters. All very delicious! Be prepared to spend, it's not cheap but the quality is fantastic.

This is the most spectaular fish market I have visited! Large amounts of seafood to choose from which you can take home fresh or eat at the market! Choices range from sushi/sashimi, crustaceans, molluscs, and even sea urchins! Also has cooked seafood as well if that is your preference. Prices are a tad expensive but you can get a good feed with very high quality fresh seafood for $50. It is worth the trip and worth the money. Would recommend eating at Peter's Fish Market.

Also ordered some fried food which is also hot, fresh and at a reasonable price. There is a lot of bin chicken nearby so please watch out if sitting outdoor. Otherwise everything is very nice

You know when you go somewhere and just order all the wrong things? I think that was my experience. There was so much amazing looking seafood here, and I chose abalone and oysters. Both not the best. My husband got eel, though, and said it was really good. So like I said, I think there is some good stuff here, but i just chose the bad ones. If I could go back, I'd get smaller oysters, as the jumbo ones were not at all what you want an oyster to be. Skip the abalone. Order some crab or lobster instead. Those all looked excellent.

Biggest fish market in Sydney. Usually enough parking spaces, but you will need to pay if you stay more than 20 minutes. Don't come after 3:30 most of places will closed by then. Several different businesses on site, including Get Fish. You can get cooked or raw seafood dishes of great varieties. Watch out for seagulls if you eat your food outside, they Will try to steal your food from you!

As an Asian migrant, fish market is a to go place whenever we are craving for seafood. Yes it's quite pricy, but it's better than buying frozen off the big supermarkets. We recently bought Octopus Takoyaki and damn they tasted good! Be ware not to consume instantly because your tongue will be begging for mercy!

Excellent place for fresh fish and seafood. Quite an institution for Sydney. Looking forward to the new development to provide more space - at peak times it is really hard to find a space. We ended up in the Boat Shed restaurant - excellent, but a little more expensive than the other options.

A very nice market that offers all kinds of seafood. Make sure you walk around for better price as same products varies in different stores. They open at 7, but it won’t be 8 or 9 until all the products are ready for delivery the day. There are also a wine shop, bubble tea shop, a fruit market and a bread shop in the market .

Great place to visit in Sydney. Not to be missed. Fresh fish food reasonably priced and tasty too. Must come early it can be a bit crowded towards afternoon and can be difficult to get seats. Came during winter so it was a bit cold and windy.

Sydney Fish Market is definitely an experience! There’s a crazy amount of food available, with so many stalls packed full of fresh seafood. Everything from oysters and prawns to lobsters, crabs, and just about every type of fish you can think of. The quality is great and you can either grab something to take home or have it cooked up right there. I went on a Tuesday, hoping it would be a bit quieter, but it was still super busy - seems like it’s always packed no matter the day. If you don’t mind the crowds, it’s an awesome spot for seafood lovers. Just be ready for a bit of a hustle, especially if you want to snag a seat!

This is definitely a MUST visit location if you go to Sydney and especially if you LOVE seafood. So many varieties of fresh seafood. You have the option of purchasing and take your seafood home, buy and have them cook it there for you or buy food already cook and eat there. Only if I have a bigger belly or more room, I would of eaten more! It was so delicious and worth the money. Glad we got to visit.

Great variety of seafood to choose from and a very busy place. Delicious and fresh food. Definitely needs the new relocation as the facilities are very run down and showing its age. Parking can be difficult and finding a seat to eat needs patience. Recommend taking your food to eat across the road at the park.

Sydney Fish Market is an iconic destination for seafood lovers in Sydney, offering an impressive selection of fresh fish and seafood, as well as a range of cafes and restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day. As soon as you enter the market, you're hit with the sights and smells of the ocean, making it a true feast for the senses. One of the best things about Sydney Fish Market is the range of seafood available. From oysters to prawns, salmon to lobster, there's something for everyone here. The quality of the seafood is exceptional, with everything being sourced fresh from local waters and expertly prepared by the skilled fishmongers. And if you're not sure what to choose, the friendly staff are always on hand to offer advice and recommendations. In addition to the seafood, the market also offers a range of cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy a meal with a view. The waterfront location provides a stunning backdrop for a leisurely lunch or dinner, and the selection of eateries means that there's something to suit every taste and budget. Overall, if you're a seafood lover in Sydney, a trip to Sydney Fish Market is a must.

Great place for tourist! People mostly recommend the 2 main seafood stores in the market (Peters and Nicholas) we got half dozen of Sydney rock oyster, a box of salmon sashimi, some shrimps and cooked seafood. Generally raw ones are way much better than the cooked ones (and takes long to wait to be cooked)

Love this place and normally I would eat a lot of seafood here. Lobsters, big shrimp, scallops, fish 🐟, clams, crayfish all looked so delicious. Inside there is not enough seats, but don’t worry, just take your food and walk outside and there are rows of tables and chairs where you can eat looking at the sea. There are many birds such as local Ibis bird are always around looking for scraps of food. A must visit for whoever visiting Sydney

A must-visit place for the amazing amount and variety of seafood. Food is good but price is touristy. It is always crowded and a little patience is needed to order and get your food. Everything is self service. Beware of the gulls that try to steal your food 🤣

Interesting visit. Enjoy a meal alongside seagulls while searching for seating. I wouldn't suggest the 4-person lobster platter, as most of the seafood consisted of fried items. However, I would certainly endorse trying the live abalone, which they'll cook for you at AUD15. You can also choose multiple seafood items to be cooked for the same price. The sashimi platter was fresh, and the prawns were notably sizable and of good quality.

Sydney Fish Market – a one-of-a-kind seafood hub! You can snag just about any sea creature here. Always up for a visit because the freshness and variety beat the supermarket any day. Pick your seafood fresh and have it cooked at a restaurant, or grab pre-cooked if you're in a hurry. Cleanliness could step up a notch, and watch out for those seagulls if you're dining outdoors – they're food thieves!

Super crowded on a Tuesday afternoon with tourists. Good shopping area for fresh seafood. Getting a table was challenging. We got seats outside and felt stressed with seagulls preying on our food. Seafood was fresh. Would recommend, probably come at non peak hours.

It is busy and probably slightly overpriced, but the seafood is still fresh and delicious. Difficult to find a seat and it's not exactly relaxing, but worth a visit if you love seafood. I did find some of the food a bit too cheesy... If it's fresh, keep it simple!

Always come and visit Sydney Fish Market when in town. Amazing selection of the finest fresh fish and shellfish that Australian waters can provide. Lots of the fishmongers sell prepared sushi and sashimi to eat there. So fresh and an incredible selection of all types of seafood. Parking is easy, recommend you get there early. They’re actually holding a new fish market next door, so do pay a visit to the old fish market before it moves. Highly recommended.

Touristy but actually good food if you like seafood. You choose from the different food stands and can eat it inside though the outside seating was a lot nicer. There's also a stand on the left side of the parking loft. They had the nicest sushi options in my opinion. I really disliked how the live animals are treated here.

The Sydney Fish market is definitely a place to visit when in Sydney. Beautiful fresh seafood. I haven't been for years and even though the place looks exactly the same on the outside, the finesse of the offered bite sized mini meals has improved greatly. The usual charm of flocks of seagulls aiming to steal your food is still there with some pelicans around to admire. I think there could be a lot more that could be done for the premises look and feel that would attract a lot more visitors like they have done in Madrid markets for example. Overall a great culinary experience and cultural experience to have.

My first time trying raw fish in any form. Instead of choosing a restaurant I chose Sydney fish market. Amazing experience. Staff at every shop was very supportive and yes they are patient. For sushi, the person from the shop(as there are different shops) helped me with what to try as a first timer. If you want to try raw or cooked seafood for first time with lots of variety, this is the place and then you will fall in love with this place and will come again :)

Love this place for the vibe. Not the greatest place for cooked food. I think they cook the unsold stuff so it’s not really fresh. Definitely a must go attraction in Sydney. Go around 10-11am, all the shops will be open and u can choose your favourite store to eat from. The prices are largely similar and their offerings also. Prices are value for the freshness of the items. If you want to buy back home, u can take ice to keep ur seafood fresh or bring a cooler bag!

When you first visit Sydney you should definitely visit fish market to try the fresh seafood. But honestly there are a lot of people and it is too crowded, especially that you will find it very difficult to grab a table and taste the fresh seafood you just buy from the store. Nowadays when I visit Sydney again I may still visit fish market because it is too iconic to pass out as a sightseeing spot, but I would rather dine in a restaurant so that there would be no need for me to worry about where to find a table during peak hours.

MUST VISIT. This place offer you a wide range of Fresh seafood. There are variety options for you from fresh sashimi to sushi or poke bowl. I have try a lot from different store, most of them are great and fresh. Except the Alaska crab with burnt cheese one, its taste yummy but sadly not serving hot enough. 🥲 Overall, it's a must visit place. Especially for seafood lover! Cons : the table not enough for the crowds if you go during meal time. You have to wait for a while.

The craziest, biggest seafood market I have ever seen for any seafood lovers. They had everything that is seafood fresh and cooked. Everything was very fresh and delicious and prices were very reasonable. The lobsters and shrimps were also delicious. Some seafood can be picked and cooked on the spot.

What a lovely experience in fish market, you can see a lot of living fishes and different seafoods which I never seen before even we are living with the ocean side! That was amazing creating a lot of exciting and unbelievable memories in my mind. You can pick a living seafood and they could cook it in there and you can also pick the sauce and cooking method (e.g abalone). It was delicious, if I go back to Sydney again I will definitely visit again Only insane was we ordered a sugar cane juice with lot of crushed ice to serve with but if you don’t want that much ice you need to pay extra $2 per cup which is also something new for me..

If you're a seafood lover, it's worth a trip here. It's a decent place to get seafood but don't expect Japan quality. If you want to eat outside, just look out for the bin chickens. It is still hotly debated on whether they're a endangered species or pest. 😂😭

Sydney Fish Market was built in 1966 as a wholesale fish market, operated by the Fish Marketing Authority. Today, it's a festive food hall with a multitude of vendors offering all manners of seafood, prepared, packaged or cooked on premise. After ordering your favorite seafood you can eat either indoors or outside by the harbour. There you'd see the dramatic New Sydney Fish Market taking shape (as of January 2025). Consider yourself lucky, because once the new Fish market is built, the current one will be turn down and replaced by over 1000 luxury apartments. So hurry up and savor this delightful culinary experience before it's gone!

Great fish market. It is extremely busy which can make it hard to pick or see what you want. Most of the stalls sell anything you could want to take home and cook, they usually have a sashimi/sushi and oyster bar as well as a variety of fried and grilled fish platters. Careful sitting outside as the seagulls will be hunting your food.
Jay Santamaria on 3/29/2024
Best time to visit is early morning. Not a lot of people at that time and food we ate seemed fresh. Definitely a feast for the senses! Outdoor seating was relaxing by the waters.

Currently a bit of renovation being done. This place is the largest fish market in Sydney, serving all kinds of seafood to the public. Also, they have many food vendors where you can get freshly cooked seafood and pretty good prices. Personally as a vegetarian, it's a bit of a challenge, but they do have some places I can eat. There is a fresh fruit market, a bakery, and deli that serve vegetarian friendly baked goods and sandwiches. I opted for an acai bowl, a feta and kale pie, and a milk tea. All were good! Just a bit overpriced, but I guess if you're not eating fish, then your options are slim 🙏🏽🤙🏽

I’ll give it 5 stars since it’s so hard to see a big market like this could please everyone but it almost did it! We went there today after first visit 5 years ago. It actually even better! The Peter’s seafood is great as usual and the food stool/cart at front sells grilled scallop and lobsters are so yummy and better than ordinary counter food there. I’m very happy about the food and ambiance there, so 5 stars for the experience today :)

Have you ever wondered where everyone has gone if they’re not at the opera bar or at any of Sydney’s icon bars and restaurants over the weekend? Yes that’s right everyone is at the fish markets buying and eating lots of seafood! If you thought interest rates going up and cost of living was taking the toll, that’s not the case at Sydney fish market. It’s one of the busiest touristy attractions you’ll find in Sydney especially on a nice sunny day. When dining outside just be mindful seagulls and garbage chickens are always on the lookout for free food. Because it’s a major attraction, bring lots of cash because you’ll need it for both parking and the seafood. There’s a lot of great food from raw to cooked. It’s always good to eat at the market ready cooked, you’ll find lots of different seafood packages. If you’re planning to buy raw seafood, save your money and go to your local seafood shop as it will be much cheaper. Things to try at the market include: oysters, king crab leg, lobster bun, crab, sashimi, aburi scallops, grilled seafood, prawns The construction that’s currently undergoing will be the new Sydney fish market due for completion in 2024. The new building will include restaurants, bars, cooking school classes and outdoor seating. Even though the fish market is heavily overpriced, it’s a popular destination with great atmosphere and some of the very best seafood you’ll find in the southern hemisphere and second largest internationally. If you’re up early in the mornings, check out the auctions starting 5:30am.

The Sydney Fish Market offers a lively experience with fresh seafood and vibrant energy. While the food is decent and fairly priced compared to restaurants, the crowds can make it a bit overwhelming. It's worth a visit if you enjoy a bustling market vibe, but be prepared for some elbow room competition during peak hours!

A nice place to visit if visiting Sydney or if you've been here for a while. Good place to get fresh fish and some good foods to eat. My friend I didn't go with complained we didn't get any fresh meat(fish/sashimi) when we're in a place to eat such kind of things. So make sure to grab some of those while you're there.
Juni Kim on 8/30/2024
The prices at Sydney Fish Market have risen so much that it no longer seems worth visiting. Scampi now costs over $110 per kilo, and salmon is priced at $90. Even oysters are sold at the same price as those in a regular fish section. There's no longer a reason to pay for parking and sit in a noisy, crowded place to eat. The wine shop there is also pricey, making it more appealing to buy seafood from a local fish shop and enjoy it at home. If you're a tourist, it might be worth visiting once, but as a local, I wouldn't recommend it.

A lot of varieties of fresh sea food! I recommend you to stay and eat inside the building, otherwise you’ll have to fight the birds who try to take your food. Price is a bit high, but that’s reasonable enough for seafood. Everything is delicious except for the garlic lobster who I bought at one of the first stores near the entrance. The lobster was too dry and tasteless.
K A P on 7/15/2023
Ample parking but have to be patient as when it’s busy, it’s by chance. Food was as expected, fresh seafood. Heaps of fruit shops as well. Seating inside is just enough but would be better to sit outside when it’s sunny. Though beware of the birds, they’re pretty aggressive with taking a bite of your food. Price wise? Well, some are expensive but some are cheap. Like a $15 butter prawn of 6 pieces. Would come back.
Karen Ayala on 5/2/2023
I went through the reviews before going to the market and many of them were about prices and crowds. I finally visited this place on a Tuesday early morning (I understand that people who live in Sydney may not be able to do this due to work/school/distance) and it was a pleasant experience. There were few people and shops were just open. All facilities (including toilets) clean and plenty of tables to sit and enjoy your food. Regarding prices, i believe it all depends on what you actually want to eat. For example, I don't buy lobster because I don't like it. However, if you haven't tried it or you want to try it specifically here, then your bill's going to be more expensive. I only bought what I really wanted to eat as for taste and portions. So saying it is expensive or cheap is relative. Ther is a fresh fruit section by the end of the market after all the fish stalks, worth trying The chocolate strawberries! The quality is definitely top, everything is fresh and not smelly. If you are a tourist in Sydney looking for a good, fresh meal, give this place a go!

Great experience coming just before Christmas. We went at 7pm Christmas eve eve, it was busy but not overwhelming. They are very organised with traffic control so that made parking easy. The selection of seafood was huge! Prices were a little expensive but I am expecting top quality. The staff at every shop were helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

The fish market was reachable by bus and train easily and conveniently. It was quite disappointed to us as there was not much things to see. The opened public area was small, packed by tourists and lack of selection. Everything was pricey while quality was so so.
Leo V on 11/13/2023
What an experience. It's worth a visit for those who are adventurous. Plenty of fresh sea food and made to order. But watch out for some dodgy vendors, make sure they cook the fresh fish or crab that you ordered otherwise they might switch it for old stock. Paid parking on site. Light rail access nearby.
Louise Mabulo on 9/18/2024
Such a great spot. It’s a hectic but tidy and well organized fish market, although the pricing for seafood is still up there (not exactly a bargain as far as going directly to a fish market goes), it makes for a lovely experience, and you’re guaranteed very fresh and high quality seafood. Ordered several rounds of oysters and sashimi, makes for a good morning/afternoon visit for fresh seafood + bringing over visitors to Sydney.

Located just minutes from Sydney CBD in Pyrmont, the Sydney Fish Market is an absolute must-visit for seafood enthusiasts. With numerous vendors offering an impressive selection of fresh seafood to take home or enjoy cooked to perfection on-site, the options are endless. From classic fish and chips to gourmet seafood platters, there’s something to satisfy every craving. While dining, the option to sit outside by the water adds to the charm of the experience. However, a word of caution: keep a close eye on your food as the crafty seagulls are always on the lookout for a tasty treat!

Amazing Fresh Seafood Experience! We had a fantastic time at the Sydney Fish Market! The place was packed, mostly with fellow tourists, which added to the lively and vibrant atmosphere. Despite the crowd, the market was well-organized, and we were able to browse the incredible variety of fresh seafood without any issues. The highlight was the diverse selection of cooked seafood options available. We decided to stay for lunch and were not disappointed. The seafood was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. There was something for everyone, from sushi to grilled prawns and oysters. It’s a must-visit for seafood lovers, and even though it was busy, it added to the experience. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Sydney!

If you like being cheek to jowl with hundreds of people, this is the place for you! Having said that, the Fish Market has a great selection of fresh seafood. Prices are ok, but not cheap. Indoor seating was limited, but plenty of outdoor dining spots and the seagulls weren’t a problem. Light rail stop is a short walk from the market. On site parking is expensive. I found the serving staff to be abrupt and not very personable, probably from dealing with huge numbers of tourists.
Mary Pongco on 11/11/2023
Great seafood spots in Sydney. Plenty shops and restaurants to select from. Every seafood looks incredibly fresh and juicy. It's nice to sit outside by the bay, but you should exercise some caution around the birds. It's a good idea to order takeaway so you can enjoy it at home away from the birds. Though somewhat pricey, it was still worthwhile to try.

First thing to acknowledge about the market, is it is an operating industrial place to visit. Put that aside, and you'll experience fantastic fresh seafood. Every species and cooked in different ways. A great place to lunch and take in the speedy atmosphere...

The Sydney Fish Market is a must-visit for seafood lovers. As one of the largest working fish markets in the world, it offers an incredible selection of the freshest, highest-quality seafood. We bought most of our cooked food from Peter's stall, including delicious lobsters with noodles in a butter and garlic sauce, grilled octopus, scallops, and sushi. We enjoyed the fresh seafood while taking in the stunning waterfront views.

It's no Tsukiji, but very respectable shops in their own rights. I love the lobster, oysters, and prawn/scampi choices & I love that you can ask the shops to cook for you even more. Make sure you go to Peter's. Had lobster tail at Nicholas' and Peter's and much prefer the one in Peter's. There's even a decent coffee shop & deli as well.

Great fish market. Huge variety of fresh seafood, delicious cooked seafood, and other types of food as well. Buy your foods and drinks and enjoy al fresco get-togethers with family and friends by the water. 🙂👍 Watch out for hungry ibises and seagulls that try to steal your lunch!😮

Love the smell, ambience and the hectic nature of this place. We managed to buy and eat some really good quality of lobster, scallops and salmon from NZ. The staff is friendly and they informed us about the newest catch of the day. Seating area was adequate and they also got an indoor and outdoor seating, but watch for the birds if you seat out side, they sometimes will snatch you food.

Must visit. Make sure you go early (up to around 9am) to avoid the crowds and to get the freshest catch! Our favourite were the lobster rolls and the fresh cuttlefish calamari - yum! The staff will also cut and prepare your own lobster for you should you choose to take it home. It was the sweetest lobster we ever had.
Patrick Bossert on 11/23/2024
Don’t let the fact the fish market is being re-built next door to the current site don’t let that put you off going there. There’s always an eye-popping array of beautiful fresh seafood, at really reasonable prices. Light rail L1 will get you there in 15 mins from Central. Unless you’re after a quick snack I’d say it is best to buy and cook it at home - the restaurants there can be crowded and if you’re eating outside, beware the seagulls because they work in teams to distract people and steal their food.
Patrick OReilly on 11/7/2023
This is a must see place for any foodie who wants to try or learn more about fish and seafood. There several large vendors that sell a wide range of products including, fish/seafood, deli items, wine & baked goods, plus restaurants that serve custom platters of raw and cooked seafood. The fresh oysters, urchin topped oysters and mornay oysters were popular. There is a sushi bar too that boasts colourful platters of sashimi and sushi rolls. Lobster was very pricy but also popular. There really is something for everyone.

If you want reviews about the retail area of the fish markets, read the other great entries. My review is about the behind the scenes tour of the workings of the market. Our tour guide was professional, knowledgeable and injected her enthusiasm into the tour. The tour included some history of the market and local area, then onto the auction floor, with its fascinating Dutch auction system. We were shown various species of fish and crustaceans, many of which I didn’t realise were of commercial interest. A very enjoyable experience and well worth the early start!

Such a huge variety of seafood. Everything is big big. Amazing crabs, lobsters, oysters and prawns. You can choose your food and have it cooked for you within the hour. Sit on the outdoor patio and just enjoy. The energy is electric, everyone is working like there will be no tomorrow. Great place to visit in Sydney.

We had a wonderful experience at Sydney Fish Market! The quality of seafood and overall atmosphere were outstanding. The only drawback was the relatively small size of the market, limiting the variety of options available. While everything we tried was fantastic, a broader selection would have been appreciated. Additionally, it’s crucial to maintain cleanliness for a more enjoyable visit. Nonetheless, the freshness and quality of the seafood make it a worthwhile destination for seafood enthusiasts.

Best seafood market in Australia. You get fresh seafood as well as cooked seafood. Best place for a weekend seafood breakfast. There is one cafe located in the market from where you can have coffee and breads. The fresh squeezed mandarin juice from the deli and the seafood breakfast made my day. Best place near city to get some fresh seafood. Easily acce by light rail and car. Plenty of car parking available.

A must visit place for everyone who is traveling to Sydney. Everytime that I have to take friends, visitors and family to travel, Sydney Fish Market is one of my bucket list. As an Asian, I always prepare my own seafood sauce to eat with Oysters 🦪. Sweet chili paste and crispy shallots are the best combination with fresh oysters too. I also prepare some salad like fresh celery to kill the taste after eating salmon. 🍣 Cautions: be careful with the seagulls as they always attack you and your food.

This spot is a 10/10 recommend if you’re a seafood enthusiast or just looking to experience an iconic Sydney market. Watching the fishmongers at work is fascinating.

As a traveler with a keen love for seafood, I found this market to be a delightful find. The space is clean and spacious, creating a welcoming environment for browsing. They offer an extensive selection of seafood, catering to various preferences. The market operates much like a food court, providing an array of choices from ready-to-eat dishes to raw seafood. What’s particularly appealing is the ‘pick and cook your own’ option, which adds a personalized touch to the dining experience. The prices are reasonable, and the convenience of not requiring reservations makes it an easy choice for impromptu visits. For those driving, the ample parking space is a significant plus, simplifying the logistics of the visit. For those opting to walk, a leisurely half-hour stroll from the city center across Darling Harbour provides a pleasant lead-up to the meal, offering a bit of light exercise before indulging in a satisfying seafood feast. Overall, this market is a fantastic spot for seafood lovers, especially for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the local culinary scene.

Visited the fishmarket dozens of times now. It is in dire need of renovation and cleaning, so I'm excited for the new market to be done! It is definitely still one of the best places to get seafood in Sydney. Loads of fried variety and luckily also many 'healthy' options available. Would recommend a visit if you like seafood.

Now if only some of the tourist hordes learned some manners.... and yes, if you are brave to sit outside to eat, the birds don't mind their manners either 😉.

The last time I visited Sydney Fish Market was at least 15 years ago. I decided to revisit this place during my short trip to Sydney. This place has not changed over the years and it was great to see and taste the fresh seafood. The only thing that has changed is the price, which is expected in the midst of inflation. I ate a lobster tail, scallop mornay, and half a dozen of oyster, all were extremely fresh and delicious. Really happy with the food.

Busy, loud and full of fresh produce. Great place to visit over Easter and grab some fresh seafood at a reasonable price. There is plenty of parking, but if you’re staying in the city, then it’s easier to walk there. Plenty of places to sit in the sun and enjoy a bbq seafood meal. Inside, it can get very crowded, so expect to walk very slowly from stall to stall. The toilets are terrible, so try and hold on or work out your plan b.

The best fish market I’ve ever been. This place offers a wide range of seafood 🐟🦞 🍤 🍣 🐙 🦑🦪 All high quality, fresh and wide caught (so it’s pricey). We had a lovely hearty lunch with a great bridge view and bought some fresh seafood there as well. Perfect place for locals and tourists. It’s a bit crowded during weekends and the pelicans are quite aggressive. Also don’t feed the birds!!!!

This market is not only made for locals, it’s also a great tourist attraction. Great atmosphere, the crowds and the shoutings just reminds you of a proper fish market. The market offers a wide range of seafood that are fresh, caught daily. It was worth the 30 minutes walk to the Fish Market from where we stayed. The sashimi was fresh and tender. It was the first time I did not fall sick from the raw oyster. Although it can be a little bit pricey, worth a try. We were allowed to buy beer from another stall. The place can get quite crowded during weekend. Might have to spend some time walking around looking for seats. Most people we met there are foreigners.

Sydney Fish Market is a seafood haven! The freshness of the prawns and fish and chips is unparalleled. The lively atmosphere and waterfront setting make it a fantastic experience, although it leans on the pricey side. The lobster we got, though, was a bit overcooked, which affected its texture. Despite this, for a top-notch seafood feast in Sydney, it's worth considering.

My favorite seafood spots in sydney. Good vibes. So enjoy it. Many shops and restaurants to choose. All seafood seem so so fresh and after cook as our order they are all juicy. Sitting outdoors along the bay is good, but need to be careful about the birds a bit. 🕊️ They might be hungry too. Love the 💖 crab and oyster here a lot 👏🏻📣
